Superior-Greenstone DSB Appoints Carlo Porretta as Principal at Geraldton Composite High School and B.A. Parker Public School

The Superior-Greenstone District School Board (SGDSB) is pleased to announce the appointment of Carlo Porretta as the Principal of Geraldton Composite High School and B.A. Parker Public School. The appointment is effective August 20, 2018.

 

Porretta began his teaching career at Chief Simeon McKay Education Centre working as a teacher. He is currently the Vice-Principal at St. Andrew’s K-12 School in High Prairie Alberta.  He has six years of experience in school administration, including the last two at St. Andrew’s, as well as two years before that as Principal at Winnipegosis Collegiate Institute. 

 

Porretta holds a Bachelor of Education Degree from Lakehead University. He also holds a Masters of Arts Degree from York University and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from York University.  He holds additional qualifications with specialist in both Guidance and Special Education as well as Principal qualifications.

 

Carlo describes his philosophy of education as student centered, and firmly believes that all students can succeed. Upon his appointment, Carlo said that, “Being an educator brings the invaluable responsibility to positively impact the community and the society in which we live. He said “I will strive to perform in my new position to the best of my ability.” Carlo has a demonstrated ability to have a positive impact on his community as he has been very involved having served on various committees, organizations, as well as on several sports teams.

 

Director of Education, David Tamblyn said it is a pleasure to welcome Carlo Porretta as Principal for the Geraldton Composite High School and B.A. Parker Public School. The administration team looks forward to working with him in the new school year. 

 

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, Tamblyn extended his congratulations to current Principal Allan Luomala who will be retiring at the end of this school year. Allan was hired on September of 1989 by the former Geraldton Board of Education and then amalgamated to Superior-Greenstone District School Board.  Tamblyn expressed his thanks to Luomala for his many years of dedication and commitment to the Board.
