The Superior-Greenstone District School Board (SGDSB) is pleased to announce the appointment of Nancy O’Donnell as Indigenous Education Lead.

Nancy holds a Bachelor of Education Degree from Nipissing University and an Honours Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Guelph.

Certified to teach in 1994, Nancy is currently a high school teacher with the Huron Superior Catholic District School Board. Previously she has held teaching positions with the Anishinabek Educational Institute, the Northern Nishnawbe Education Council, Algoma District School Board and Biigtigong Nishnaabeg.

Nancy has completed Ojibwe Immersion Courses at Sault College and in Biigtigong Nishnaabeg. She has developed and written Indigenous curriculum for Sault College, TV Ontario and Huron Superior Catholic District School Board. She is a member of the Red Rock Indian Band.

In order to serve the needs of her students Nancy will complete the current semester with Huron-Superior CDSB before starting in her new position with SGDSB in February.

Upon her appointment, Nancy said that she is “looking forward to collaborating with local communities and organizations to develop partnerships in support of Ontario’s Indigenous Education Strategy. This is an exciting opportunity to help build success with Indigenous student achievement while increasing awareness of Indigenous culture and history. Superior-Greenstone District School Board encompasses an area of rich cultural history while having the advantage of small school communities. Together we can “inspire our students to succeed and make a difference”.

Director of Education, David Tamblyn said it is a pleasure to welcome Nancy O’Donnell as member of the Leadership team. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, Tamblyn extended congratulations to O’Donnell in her new role as Indigenous Education Lead.
