Superior-Greenstone District School Board Chair Pinky McRae along with Director of Education David Tamblyn would like to advise parents and guardians of an open letter it has posted on its website about the upcoming legal strike position of its Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) members.

As of December 10, 2012, ETFO members will be in a legal strike position.  In addition to a number of sanctions imposed on the Board, ETFO teachers may stage a one-day strike.

In its letter to parents, the board advises that, if a one-day strike is called by ETFO, it cannot ensure a safe environment for its students and all elementary schools would be closed during such an event.

The Board has been given assurance by ETFO that it would be provided 72 hours notice prior to the withdrawal of services.  Should a one-day strike be announced the Board will use local media to get this information out to parents as quickly as possible.  As well, the board website at www.sgdsb.on.ca will also provide for posting notices to parents.  Communiqués of this sort can be accessed by clicking on the “Labour Relations Updates” which is located as a banner on the right hand side of the webpage.

All efforts will be made to ensure that students continue to receive the best education possible in as safe and secure an environment as we can provide in our schools.
