COVID-19 Advisory February 26, 2021

February 26, 2021 -  The Superior-Greenstone District School Board has received notification of COVID-19 exposure impacting our Nipigon-Red Rock District High School.  All close contacts are being called and given instructions by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU).  We are working with TBDHU to make sure all potential risks are minimized.

A letter has been sent to all Parents/Guardians with children who attend the school.

Due to our COVID-19 prevention strategies in place, those staff and students not contacted by public health are asked to self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 and can continue to attend school as usual.  Please note that a close contact is considered someone who has been within 2 metres of someone for longer than 15 minutes.  Individuals passing by in a hallway are not considered contacts and have very minimal risk of spreading infection.

This information will be added to our COVID-19 Advisory Page on our Board website as per Ministry requirements.  For reasons of privacy, we will minimize sharing personal information about any case and encourage others to avoid identifying individuals.

Although we have put in place strict COVID-19 prevention strategies, such as physical distancing, cohorting, time outdoors and enhanced cleaning during the day and in the evening, the virus can be brought into a school unknowingly.  If a child develops symptoms, they will be required to stay home from school and contact the local assessment center to get tested.  All students and staff should continue to use the Government of Ontario’s school screening tool daily before attending school.

Our students’ safety and health are our top priorities and we will continue to keep you informed as the situation progresses.
