Rural Northern Education Fund

The Rural Northern Education Fund (RNEF) is dedicated funding to improve education results for students from rural and northern communities. Funding is allocated to school boards based on the number of rural student enrolment in the school board.

Funds can be used towards:

  • Improving programming and support services
  • Continuing the operation of rural schools
  • Enhancing student transportation options

Rural Northern Education Fun:  2023-2024 Reporting

In the 2023-24 school year, SGDSB invested RNEF funding in:

  • Dedicated Occasional Teachers at both the Elementary and Secondary Panel servicing George O'Neill Public School, Terrace Bay Public School, Schrieber Public School, B.A. Parker Public School, Marjorie Mills Public School and Geraldton Composite High School 

Total investments amount to $205,989.22


Rural Northern Education Fun:  2021-2022 Reporting

In the 2021-22 school year, SGDSB invested RNEF funding in:

  • Graduation Coaches at Geraldton Composite HS
  • Elementary Guidance Teachers
  • Travel budgets for Guidance, Leadership and School Support staff benefiting all schools in the district
  • Child and Youth Worker at Marjorie Mills PS

Total investments amount to $94,500:

  • $19,000 Graduation Coaches
  • $18,000 Guidance
  • $17,500 Travel Enhancements
  • $40,000 Child and Youth Worker
