Hold and Secure Update - June 7, 2023

June 7, 2023

Dear Parents/Guardians/Caregivers;

RE:  Hold and Secure at Margaret Twomey Public School and Marathon High School

The Margaret Twomey Public School and the Marathon High School are currently on a hold and secure due to an external threat not related to the school.  Please check for a message from school messenger from the school.

The Margaret Twomey Public School, Marathon High School and the Superior-Greenstone District School Board are cooperating with the Ontario Provincial Police to ensure the safety of all students and staff. Students and staff are following the hold and secure procedures practiced during the school year.

Depending on the circumstances, students may be at school beyond normal school hours.  Please be reassured that your children will be with staff the entire time, and their safety will be our number one priority.

Margaret Twomey Public School buses will be canceled this afternoon and parents are asked to pick up students at the school.  Students will be held until a parent or guardian can pick students up.

The Marathon High School students will be dismissed if parents/guardians/caregivers can pick up their children at the school out of an abundance of caution and at the suggestion of the Ontario Provincial Police.  Students from Netmizaaggamig and Biigtigong will be dismissed to their bus as per normal.

All Community Use of Schools activities will be canceled this evening at both sites.

This is an evolving situation, and some time may pass before an update is provided to the Board by police. Superior-Greenstone District School Board is committed to ensuring parents and guardians receive accurate, timely information, and will only provide updates when we are confident that the information we provide is both current and credible.  This information will also be posted on the Board website and posted on the Board and school, Facebook page, Twitter.

We advise all parents that any information that you see online from sources other than the school, Board, police or local municipality may not be current or credible.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation. The safety and security of our students, staff and families is our number one priority.

Sincerely,

Nicole Morden Cormier,

Director of Education

Superior-Greenstone District School Board
