Small Fire at SGDSB Learning Centre

MARATHON, Ontario – In the morning of Thursday, October 12, at approximately 10:00 a.m., an alarm alerted Superior-Greenstone District School Board (SGDSB) staff to an issue at the Learning Centre.

A small stove fire was detected, in the staff kitchen area and the fire alarm was activated.  The Township of Red Rock Fire Services responded immediately.  All staff and community partners followed safety protocols and evacuated the building.

Only the staff kitchen area was affected.  The building was cleared as per fire protocols; all staff and visitors were accounted for and there were no injuries as a result of the small fire.

The SGDSB worked closely with the Township of Red Rock Fire Services to investigate the cause of the fire.  We would like to thank fire fighters for their quick response.  At approximately 10:30 a.m. the building has been deemed safe and regular business resumed.

First established in 2017, the Superior-Greenstone District School Board Learning Centre is a community hub of services located in the Township of Red Rock, Ontario.  The primary focus of this SGDSB education facility is to provide active inquiry-based learning opportunities for staff, a gathering space for curriculum-based experiences for student activities, and administration space for system staff.
